About the Group

We are a committed and experienced group of Calgary Psychologists. Our team is dedicated to offering exceptional care and we provide a full range of supportive, evidence-based and inclusive services. We work with children, teens, adults, couples and families, providing assessments and therapy to support improved mental and emotional health, functioning and wellness. We help address concerns including learning and attention, behaviour, mood, anxiety, self-esteem, family, parenting and relationship difficulties. We also have specialized training to deal with trauma, grief and loss. Our space is safe and conducive to supporting people on their journey to feel better, healthier, and to reach their potential.

Announcement

John will be taking a break from receiving new referrals for a few months, he is taking time off for some vital profesional development. We will miss his clinical expertise and his sense of humor around here, but wish him well, he will be back soon!

Welcome Andrew!

Andrew is joining us part time to provide his expertise in assessment services. He is registered clinical and school psychologist specializing in psycho-educational assessments, psychological assessments, and cognitive behavioural therapy services. He draws from 15 years of experience working internationally as a school counsellor and special educator to support children, families, and educators through evidence-based practices. His experiences as a classroom teacher, special educator, university admissions counsellor, and social-emotional counsellor span the globe from Toronto, Calgary, Istanbul, Amsterdam, and Hong Kong, where he held a split role as Counsellor and Learning Strategist.

Andrew has a passion for social justice, and has dedicated his research efforts to examining how educators facilitate safe and inclusive school environments for gender and sexually-diverse youth. Andrew has worked with individuals (and their families) of all ages, and will focus on applying cognitive-behavioural techniques while building supportive and collaborative relationships with his clients.

John Marquina, B.Sc., A.A., M.C., PhD(cand)., CCC, Registered Provisional Psychologist

John completed his Masters in Counselling at the City University of Seattle in Canada, and is currently working on his Doctor in Philosophy in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. John has a strong passion for working with children, youth, and families. His work is informed with eclectic approach of family system theories, cognitive-behaviour therapy, cultural humility, brief solution therapy, resiliency model, and strength-based approach. In the disability sector, John provides clinical support using combination of Positive Parenting Program (Triple P), Applied Behaviour Analysis informed practice, Positive Behaviour Support, Social Thinking Model, Circles Curriculum, and Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS). He has worked with families experiencing domestic violence in immigrant sectors, providing anger management and parenting workshops. John is also active in the Filipino community in Calgary, where he advocated for mental health within his community. John has strong experience in facilitating positive parenting support, social skills development, and emotional regulation for children.

John’s future aspiration is to continue his career in developing programs and community initiatives that will empower individuals to express their uniqueness and reach their full potential. He has developed support groups for LGBTQ2+ youths and created a network of support for LGBT refugees.

In his free time, John is an avid hiker and has explored different terrains around the Rocky Mountains. John also enjoys traveling and has been to Europe and Asia.

Introducing Heather…

Heather Johnson is a Registered Provisional Psychologist working with children (10+), youth, and adults both in counselling and assessment roles. Heather is interested in the healing power of the therapeutic relationship and takes a person-centered approach to her work. She brings her past experience both in yoga and mindfulness to her work and has experience working with trauma, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. Heather uses EMDR as a tool in session as well. She attempts to help clients understand their patterned responses in relation to their family and cultural systems.

Heather provides formal giftedness, ADHD and full psychoeducational assessments for children and adults. Even in assessment Heather takes a relational approach and attempts to create a safe, trusting space with the goal of getting a comprehensive picture of a client’s functioning.

We are honored to be part of the Breaking Free Foundation. This great organization provides therapy grants for trauma-informed therapy, striving to make healing accessible for everyone. Introducing Dr. Christine Knight

Christine has almost two decades of experience providing psychological and neuropsychological assessment, diagnosis and treatment to adult and geriatric clients with a wide variety of mental health issues, co-morbid medical conditions and functional difficulties including cognitive impairment and dementia, traumatic brain injury, developmental disabilities, personal injury and chronic pain.

She uses strength-based and person-centered approach to the treatment of depression, anxiety, insomnia, grief and loss, stress management, coping with change, dealing with chronic illness, as well as helping clients overcome trauma and PTSD.

Christine received her B.A. in Psychology from McGill University, a joint M.Sc. in Applied Psychology and Gerontology from the University of Waterloo and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Lakehead University. She has an appointment as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Calgary.
